Wow! DAMN... This can also happen if there is a problem with the tape, such as a worn or defective tape. Also, never try drying the camcorder out with a hair drier, this can damage the plastic parts of the tape transport. check my blog
NO doubt it's a design fault, which will cost you an arm & a leg to get repaired.The smacking theory seems to be the thing that works. Paid $100 bucks to get it fixed when I got home. You may need to do this a couple of times. I also 'bit' the camera. check my blog
You do not have to dismantel the unit to get to this you can do this from the ejection port. Tried swapping tapes, sometimes worked, but not always.Now it all makes sense. I was having the flashing C:31:23 code as well.
