Just be careful to smack it with your open palm to distribute the impact of the blow and avoid damaging the camcorder. The "head" needs changing. C 31 42 FG fault during normal drum operations. i've warmed the the cam too and honestly i don't know wht made it woek the warming or the smacking...

I also had the C:31:22 error... C:32:11 I ejected the tape, re-inserted it and have not had any problems since. In my case helps: turn the videocassette (on the desk), release the blocade in the bottom hole with screw-driver, then rewind the right wheel for a half turn (not more!) with Worked fine up until just before Christmas, of course.

Try taking the tape out and whacking it but good on the side.The engineers at Sony should be ashamed of themselves... C:31:42 the whacking trick worked for me. My hands a little sore after three blows to the cassette side of the 250.

Thanks Again! CLEAN FIRST. Sometimes this indicates the drum motor is failing. Now when smacked harder, it seems ok at least since last few hours.

I also have the same problem I just want an answer so I can also change the tapes to dvd I tried reinserting the tape many times? Hopefully Sony will be out of business soon anyway. From one Debbie (and Ed) to another! FIRST, I TOOK THE BATTERY OUT, THEN THE TAPE.
I have a sony dcr-trv250 for about 2 years and it started acting up. Load the tape again, and perform operations from the beginning. Thank You!!!
